Best Wave of My Life

I’ve been an avid for snowboarder for about 16 years now, and skied for 10 years prior. My surfing was never really that good until I changed my mind frame back in the summer of 2015. When I look down at the top of a mountain prepping myself for an epic run I normally think to myself “let’s crush it”. Without thinking to much into it I, I make hard turns, slash any existing pow, Ollie and pop as much as possible which all translates into the best run I could ever ask for. If I’m riding in Killington Vermont on an icy day, or looking at first tracks in beautiful Snowbird Utah, I end with the same results. One of the best runs of my life.

It wasn’t until last summer, when I realized why my surfing wasn’t on par with my snowboarding. I wasn’t slashing, paddling, and hustling like I do when snowboarding. At that moment my thought process shifted. Every wave I catch, or try paddling into is a lesson. I am able to go into the next wave or set that much stronger. From that day on, whenever I surf, I find the best wave of my life. I’m at a critical epicenter in my surfin career. With this new outlook on surfing, I’m catching more waves, better waves and of course having more fun. Christmas morning 2015 paddling out with a new surf friend, I caught some of the most amazing waves in Matunuck. All due to this methodology.

In attempts to make a long story short, or shorter at least, what did I learn and what can you as well? What is something you do really well? Try to think about that skill and what makes you so good at that. How do you go into it?  For me, it’s snowboarding. It’s fun, I’m relatively good at it and traditionally my energy is contagious. If I take the attitude of how am I going to crush this run and translate that to surfing or better yet my job I get so much more done. My progress and performance is crazy.

This process is how I am always finding the best wave of my life.
