Where It All Started

For those who know me, they see me tagging #bestdayofmylife quite often. This all comes from a good friend’s grandfather. Mel Holson had been skiing for decades, as he just turned 90 last year. Mel would always be the first one out the door for first tracks on Killington’s finest, Great Eastern. No matter what the conditions were, when he came in from his morning turns, if you asked him “how were the conditions,” he’d always(and still does) reply “Best Day of My Life.” It could be raining cats and dogs outside, it could be blistering cold. It didn’t matter. It was the “Best of Day of His Life.”

It was after friends reminded me of this Mel tradition that truly changed my life. Take a second just to think if every morning you woke up and thought “today is the best day of my life.” Now we have all had difficult times in life, and especially rough days. I try to take the lesson of that day to make my life better, and in that sense, I’m living, I’m learning, and I’m wiser than the day before. You’ll be amazed at what a better day you’ll have if you live by that mentality.
